Helping you take charge of your health and hormones through functional medicine and nutrition
I’m Dr. Alexandra MacKillop, a functional medicine doctor, food scientist and author. Applying years of clinical healthcare knowledge and personal experience, I write about functional medicine, nutrition, and hormones from a holistic perspective.
My goal is to help you achieve better health than you ever dreamed possible.

Or perhaps you’re frustrated after your primary care doctor told you that your health is fine because your labs are “normal,” even though you feel terrible. You’re not alone.
I hear stories every day of women who feel lost, dismissed, and isolated because they can’t find help for debilitating symptoms like bloating, constipation, irregular periods, infertility, mood swings, premenstrual depression, fatigue, brain fog and more. But there’s good news: through research-backed functional medicine strategies, I help women of all walks of life understand the root cause of their health concerns and apply targeted, natural medicine strategies like biohacking, herbal medicine, supplements, nervous system regulation and more.
I want you to feel your very best, every single day. (Yes, it’s possible!)

I’ve been helping women heal through functional medicine since 2017. Trained as a functional medicine-specialized chiropractic physician with a background in food science, I’ve learned exactly how to apply nutrition, lifestyle medicine and targeted supplements to heal the root cause of symptoms and prevent the need for prescription drugs or surgery.
With years of clinical experience, I know which types of natural health strategies actually work and what doesn’t. The key is knowing your own body and harnessing the power of your own lab test results. That’s why I wrote Go with Your Flow, a book designed for helping women fix menstrual and hormonal health concerns without the birth control pill. I’ve also written a non-diet nutrition book, Fulfilled, helping heal disordered eating and restore a relationship to food that honors both God and your body.
What Google can’t explain and your doctor won’t―you have the power to take charge of your own health.
Women are told the pill is the solution to every hormonal issue, but it’s not. From painful periods to fertility struggles, real concerns are too often brushed aside. This empowering guide, written by a functional medicine physician, offers science-backed strategies that align with your menstrual cycle. You’ll gain the clarity and tools to balance your hormones, fix your periods, and feel your best by finally understanding the resilience, power, and wisdom of your body.

“Personable”
I’ve had a great experience working with Dr. MacKillop. After years of infertility and failed IUI, we conceived naturally and I know it wouldn’t have been possible without her help. She is super personable and easy to talk to and takes my concerns seriously.

“Empathetic”
She was so empathetic and really made me feel heard, which was so important to me after seeing doctor after doctor for years. She knew a bunch of extra testing to do also that no other doctor ever brought up. I feel like I’m in excellent hands.

“Realistic”
The office is adorable and Dr. MacKillop is awesome. I’ve seen two other functional medicine doctors in chicago and she is by far the best. Down to earth, realistic, and you really feel like she cares about you. I’ve brought in all my family members too.

Functional Medicine for Women’s Health
One of the most common times that women experience new symptoms is during hormonal shifts in the body. This is not simply because of the hormonal changes themselves (think: mood swings in perimenopause, night sweats following childbirth) but because of the intricate ways that hormones affect all the other systems of the body. Thyroid, adrenal and reproductive hormones affect everything from sleep to digestion to muscle, bones, and more.
Just because hormones are powerful doesn’t mean they’re always the culprit.
Women’s hormones can feel like both a blessing and a curse depending on the circumstances. If you’re struggling with your health after pregnancy, if you suspect perimenopause because of age, or if you notice changes in your symptoms depending on where you are in your cycle, you deserve to get to the bottom of it, and I’m here to help you.
Nothing feels more isolating than feeling terrible and not knowing why. But when you understand the root cause of your symptoms, you can finally start making a plan to not only recover, but achieve better health than you ever thought possible.
Most doctors in the traditional medical setting don’t delve deeper than basic screening tests. But you deserve better.
Whether you’ve been dealing with symptoms for days or decades, I can help you understand how to use in-depth testing to explore all possible root causes, leverage the power of holistic lifestyle practices like nutrition and biohacking, and customize a supplement and herbal medicine plan to finally start healing from the inside out. Band-aid solutions don’t work, but functional medicine does.
You don’t have to walk this path alone.
