This is when people are actually born with a low functioning thyroid gland (Congenital Hypothyroidism). It is imparative that the infant get the needed therapy as soon as possible in order to avoid learning disabilities. Today infants are tested to check if there is a thyroid issue when they are 3 to 5 days old.
