What’s in my candy cabinet

February 6, 2019

Folks who know me in person know that I love candy/sweets and that I eat them regularly. I’ve always been a fan of desserts, but I haven’t always enjoyed them in a balanced way. Nowadays, I’m grateful that I have the freedom to enjoy my favorite foods without feeling guilty afterwards. The title of the … More What’s in my candy cabinet

We were all born as intuitive eaters. But as we grew, our culture made us believe that we needed to strictly control our appetites -- measuring, counting, and planning our food -- in order to live long, healthy lives. In reality, this is totally untrue! When thoughts about food consume us, they actually end up PREVENTING us from fulfilling our purpose, which is so much bigger than changing the shape and size of our bodies. Today's blog post is about my experience with becoming an intuitive eater, and how returning to the eating patterns I was created freed my thoughts so I could (finally) truly live.⠀
Focusing on changing our bodies or trying to lose weight creates a huge distraction in our minds, to the point where we can become preoccupied with avoiding certain foods, or avoiding eating altogether. Exerting so much mental energy towards eating (or not eating) a certain way actually makes it more difficult for us to focus on the important things in life. At the end of the day, food just isn’t one of them! If you find yourself categorizing your day as “good” or “bad” based on what you ate that day or how much you exercised, it might be a sign that your relationship with food is negatively affecting your life. Food isn’t the enemy, and avoiding food doesn’t make you a “better” or more accomplished human. You are SO MUCH MORE than what you eat!
I've always been a fan of desserts, but I haven't always enjoyed them in a balanced way. Nowadays, I'm grateful that I have the freedom to enjoy my favorite foods without feeling guilty afterwards. Today's blog post is about my experience getting to a place where I could keep candy around the house without feeling crazy. I hope it inspires you to take steps to heal your relationship with food, too!⠀
Enchiladas verde chili recipe on the blog, as well as a tribute to White Cheddar Cheez-Its. Additional shout-out to @aldiusa for having them on sale. Way better than the normal kind. Infinitely better than cheese nips (ew). The perfect way to add crunch to leftover chili from the super bowl. (Go Pats 😉). In my mid-day reflection, I’m now thinking that a checkered pattern of Cheez-Its on @adamlevine’s #tanktop would’ve been a nice addition.
